The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) is the leading trade body within the safety industry. It has some 160 members ranging from manufacturers and distributors, through to test houses, certification bodies and safety professionals. This membership is accommodated within six sector trade associations.
The Federation is the Lead Association for the PPE Regulations in the UK [as designated by the DTi] and is recognised as a Competent Authority by the Health & Safety Executive. It has active links with many government departments and over 130 representative Trade Bodies.
As such the BSIF is probably the best source of general information on most matters connected with occupational health and safety and we take very seriously our public service role of assisting companies to comply with and conform to the current health and safety regulations. The BSIF website was set up to reflect this role while also providing our members with an invaluable online service.
"When the BSIF was founded in 1994, one of its main missions was to fulfil a wider public service role than that traditionally adopted by trade bodies. This website is part of that ongoing process to improve occupational safety standards, reduce the number of industrial injuries and promote a better understanding by individual companies of the cost benefits that accrue from safety working practices."
BSIF Associations
The BSIF consists of some seven independent Trade Associations which are Federated together to create the British Safety Industry Federation. It is not unusual for organisations to qualify as members for more than one Association because they trade in several sectors.
