With its new name, re-styled logo and revised constitution, the Ladder Association, formerly the British Ladder Manufacturers' Association (BLMA), aims to set a new agenda for the ladder industry in the UK . A tried and trusted piece of workplace equipment - it is estimated that some two million are in daily use throughout the UK - the ubiquitous ladder is set to get some serious support.
The Ladder Association (TLA) was formed in 1947 by the major ladder manufacturers of the day. Today it welcomes members from every part of the access industry, advances best practice and plays an integral role in promoting the highest standards of ladder design and manufacture.

No longer the exclusive domain of manufacturers, the Association is a vibrant, forward-looking organisation determined to look after the best interests of its increasingly diverse membership base and, of course, the industry at large.

The need for a clear and concise interpretation of the 2005 Work at Height Regulations (WAHR) has resulted in the introduction of a range of TLA initiatives designed to aid compliance and foster safe working practice.

High standards and competence

Advocacy    The Ladder Association is the voice of the industry and its message is clear and precisely the same as the HSE.... Ladders are not banned in the workplace, so if it's right to use a ladder, use the right ladder and use it safely.

Membership    Irrespective of size or market sector, any organisation can now apply to join the TLA.  Set yourself apart by demonstrating your commitment to professionalism and best practice.

Training    For users, supervisors and managers, the TLA ladder and step ladder training course sets the standard.  It is only available from nationally accredited TLA training centres.

TLA Photo Card    Definitive proof of competence when using leaning ladders and stepladders.

Website    The TLA website offers free and unlimited access to a comprehensive information resource.

Users' Guide    An indispensable 40-page guide to employer and user responsibilities, WAHR, risk avoidance, planning ahead and ladder inspection and maintenance.
