Energy and Utility Skills

Energy & Utility Skills has been established with the specific aim of making sure that your voice is heard on skills issues. Working under the governance of the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA), and within the Skills for Business network (SfBn), our employer-led Sector Skills Council has been charged with tackling the skills debate, qualifications and skills delivery. Energy & Utility Skills is the Sector Skills Council for the electricity, gas, waste management and water industries.

Aims of Energy & Utilities Skills

  1. To establish Energy & Utility Skills as the recognised expert for skills issues within the sector for employers, employees and stakeholders.
  2. To create a comprehensive suite of skills delivery programmes to meet main industry needs.
  3. To develop and promote career pathways to support the recruitment of people across all entry levels into the sector.
  4. Ensuring employers' needs are met by good quality training provision with adequate geographical coverage and capable of meeting different learning styles.
  5. Develop and implement a sustainable business model beyond initial licence period

Employer-led, our purpose is to help employers identify their skills needs.  We can then provide effective solutions to improve business performance such as training tools and funding opportunities. The government's national skills strategy aims to ensure that employers of all sizes have people with the right skills and qualifications to support the success of their businesses.Of equal importance is ensuring that individual employees have the skills and qualifications that they need to be both employable and personally fulfilled.

Central to the government's skills strategy is the idea that the employers voice should be significant in choosing the provision of training and skills development, and the related systems of qualifications. Energy & Utility Skills is actively seeking to establish itself as a focal point for industry and government working together, and would welcome your input and support, whatever the size of your business.
