The day to day business of ATLAS is carried out by the secretary and his team at 4c St Marys Place, The Lace Market in Nottingham, who report to elected members of Council at meetings held four times a year.

Council meetings are open to all ATLAS members and topics such as finance, new legislation, committee reports and new applications for membership are discussed.

The Council is made up of The President, the Immediate Past President, two Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer and six Council members all of whom (except the immediate past president) are elected at the Annual General Meeting. There are also a number of honorary life vice-presidents who are elected from time to time in recognition of their services to the association.

The committees within the organisation are chaired by council members or members actively involved in ATLAS and are namely Accident, Structures, Lightning Conductor, Public Relations, Safety, Training, Equipment, Membership and Complaints.

The objectives of the Association are:

  • To ensure high standards of safety, both for management and operatives through a comprehensive range of training and qualification.
  • To protect others who may be affected by their operations.
  • To maintain a high standard of professional conduct and ensure members comply with current regulations.
  • To represent to clients a hallmark of quality and efficiency.
  • To secure equitable forms of contract with clients and to discourage unfair and unsafe work practises.

Association members play an active part in the work of the British Standards Institution and have an ongoing working relationship with the Health and Safety Executive.

The Association together with the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT), form the National Joint Council for the Industry.
